Darci is over 14 months now, and I haven't put an update for a while! Doug took her to see Dr. Harris on Wednesday of this week, and she weighed 25 lbs and is 31 inches tall. Both height and weight are in the 75-90 percentile, so she is a little larger than average still, but her growth has slowed. It's been nice to settle in to a wardrobe that fits more than once or twice like her infant clothes did!
At her Dr. visit she got two shots, one was a flu booster and the other was a vaccine. She didn't cry at all, just made a face. She is very sociable and likes going anywhere. She especially loves riding in the cart at the store and looking at all the people. You have to keep the cart away from anything she can reach, though!
Darci's been improving at walking, but she still just falls all the time while walking around. She dances, does funny marching steps, and seems to move to her own imaginary rhythm all the time. She still loves music and will stop whatever she's doing to listen to any kind of music.
We've all been adjusting to Walter being in our house this week. Darci likes him but also already expresses herself to him. If he wants to lick her, which he doesn't do too often, he's very calm, she will just push him off if she doesn't want it. And he just moves on immediately. It seems like a great match so far. She is delighted by him, she will walk around behind him and say "ahhh" over and over. She pets him very nicely, but also tries to climb on him whenever he's laying down. He tolerates anything, but we are teaching her not to be rough with him.
Darci still doesn't say many words. She is a champion whiner which I'm sure she inherited from me, and is my karmic just desserts. She only says Mama when she is whining. She says Dada all the time and obviously knows that is her Daddy. She calls to him when he's out of the room. She can understand us better every day, and will follow instructions for some simple things.
Darci's diet is including more normal foods and less baby foods all the time. She now has four teeth on the top and only two on the bottom, so we haven't given her food that really needs work to chew. She will feed herself and seems to like doing that. Today for lunch she had a turkey and cheese sandwich with mayo and I tore it up and gave her the bits and she fed each bit to herself.
She's very affectionate and funny. She is getting more independent but still wants to cuddle and gives hugs all the time. Her idea of kisses seems to be just coming toward you with her mouth open, so we have to work on that. She loves to make us laugh and it's obvious that she is intentionally being funny. She's very fun to be around most of the time.
This weekend we are turning her carseat around to face the front. She will love the new perspective, I'm sure. We are hoping to get out to do a mushroom hunt on Sunday. It will be fun to take Darci and Walter out to the forest.
