We had our 9 month Dr. appointment today, just a check-up and some shots. Darci officially weighs 23 pounds now, which is a little lighter than we had thought. She in about the 95th percentile for her weight. We have been seeing her slim down just a bit lately as she spends more time cruising around on two legs, getting into everything. She is 29 inches tall, so about 2 1/2 feet. Her height is 75-95th percentile for age, so she is a little taller than average at this point. Her head measured 17 inches around, right on average.
She is very healthy and we really just talked about nutrition with Dr. Harris and how to wean her from nighttime feedings. He suggested that the meals and snacks we are doing now sound just right and reminded us what foods to avoid - citrus, milk, wheat (we've already broken that rule, but since she didn't have a bad reaction he said not to bother avoiding wheat now), nuts, honey, eggs, and I think that was about it. To help her get away from needing to eat during the night he suggested slowly watering down the formula over the next three weeks until she gets used to not having as many calories at night. It would be nice to sleep through the night a little more often, so we'll see how that goes.
Darci did really well with her shots, she had her 9 month vaccination shot which is a combo of Hep B and polio, and then a regular flu shot and an H1N1 shot. We take her back in one month for flu boosters since this is the first time she's had flu shots. She didn't notice the first shot, but the second and third were definitely painful for her. But she was calm again in a couple of minutes and now a few hours later doesn't seem to have any tenderness or other reaction to the shots.
We were happy again to see that she wasn't afraid of the Dr. or nurse, she seemed really interested in everything there and wanted to look around. She's a very outgoing baby right now and loves going anywhere. New experiences are very exciting to her. Hopefully she will stay that way, it's fun to introduce her to new places and people.
