Eight Months Old

Today Darci turns eight months old. Time for a status update! She is approximately 28 pounds now, I weighed her by stepping on the scale with and without her, so it's not exact, but pretty close. We are changing to size 4 diapers next time we buy some, and I am ordering her a new carseat, since she has just passed the weight limit on the infant seat.

She is able to easily sit upright now, although still has trouble trying to get herself into an upright position on her own. She would much rather sit up than lay down most of the time now. She is a very good crawler now, and can make it across the room or across the house in no time! The newest thing she is working on is standing up. She will pull herself up to a standing position whenever she is near something that will hold her.

She babbles quite a bit now, and makes repetitive syllables as you can hear in the videos below. It is getting easier to imagine her talking and walking soon. We have lowered her crib mattress, but haven't seen her pulling herself up in the crib yet.

She sleeps well for naps and at night. She goes to bed between 7-8 every night. Usually she will wake in the night around 2 AM and again around 5 AM. Sometimes I feed her at night, but I am trying to get her enough food to get through the night to 5 AM at least without needing to eat. We are in the process of weaning from breastfeeding. She is not interested much anymore and it feels like a natural progression toward no more nursing.

Darci loves to eat solid food and has two meals a day. She's tried a few different foods - oatmeal, bananas, peaches, avocado, peas and broccoli. This week we will be trying carrots and then butternut squash. So far we have been just preparing fresh or frozen fruit and veggies for her. Dan and Beth gave us a food mill that works great for making baby food puree out of regular foods.

She loves all of her toys and can take advantage of most of their features. She loves her Weeble Wobble house, her board books, and anything that makes noise when she shakes it. We're having a great time with her and can't wait to see what the next few months bring!
